Very good news!

We have a new librarian at Shepard-Pruden Library!

Other week I saw a familiar face with library leaders. Well, they hired Emma Tynch, who looks familiar because she worked at the library about two years ago. Welcome back, Emma.

Tynch left the library to attend UNC-Chapel Hill, where she continued to work at a local library.

Reflecting on her return to the library where her career began, Tynch said she is eager to get back to work.

“I’m so excited to be returning to Shepard-Pruden Memorial Library,” she said. “I began my work in libraries in Edenton before leaving to get my Master’s in Library Science and to be returning now is just incredible. I look foward to continuing to provide fun and engaging programming for all ages.  I am thrilled to be a part of that process, this team and this community!”

As soon as Tynch finishes her classes, she will return to the bookshelves and stacks, starting mid-December.

The appointment follows a period of turnover at the top of the regional system. Nate King resigned as regional director in May 2026 and left the post on July 31. His successor, Anna Louise Kallas, resigned in early August, only days after taking over. Kallas had previously served as Shepard-Pruden librarian before being promoted to regional librarian. In August, the board named Perquimans Librarian Michele Lawrence as interim regional director.

Lawrence was recently named as Regional Director of the library system.

Turning the page, I think we can get back to reporting Shepard-Pruden’s latest book offerings and programming news.
