Tyrrell County youth proudly represented their community at the 2026 North Carolina State Fair, showcasing their dedication to agriculture and animal care.
Brantly Mann, Evie Muthler, Ezrah Muthler, and Savannah Spruill exhibited turkeys; Adelyn Hemilright, Sawyer Hemilright, and Kennedy Winslow exhibited goats; and Darci Boucher, Delilah Carawan, and Kennedy Winslow exhibited lambs.
A special congratulations goes to Boucher, who earned the honor of Supreme Reserve Champion Market Lamb at the 2026 NC State Fair!
The photo is of Muthler with her turkey, which placed second in its class behind the bird that went on to win Supreme Grand Champion, and another of Boucher with her Supreme Reserve Champion Market Lamb. See photos at the end of the story.
4-H folks — if you’ve got news, send it to mileslayton1969@gmail.com
I’ve covered more than a bit of 4-H news over the years, so I know its importance to the students and families. Thanks go to Emilou P. Spruill, Tyrrell County Center, NC Cooperative Extension, for this press release.
Raising and showing livestock teaches young people valuable life skills that extend far beyond the show ring. Through daily feeding, fitting, and animal care, youth develop responsibility, patience, perseverance, and a strong work ethic. Keeping records of expenses, growth, and animal health builds organization and financial management skills, while preparing for competition strengthens confidence, communication, leadership, and sportsmanship. These projects also teach goal-setting, problem-solving, and the importance of teamwork. Congratulations to all these young exhibitors for their hard work and for representing Tyrrell County at the 2026 NC State Fair!
