COLUMBIA — A Columbia man was arrested twice within a 24-hour span this month after separate traffic stops turned up methamphetamine, according to the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office.

Robert Matthew Dolan was first stopped Friday, Aug. 7 on U.S. Highway 64 for speeding. During the stop, deputies found approximately 0.9 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Dolan was arrested, posted bond and was released.
That said, Dolan didn’t learn anything from his first arrest — the following day, Saturday, Aug. 8, deputies encountered Dolan again after he ran a stop sign at the intersection of Travis Road and Chapel Hill Road. That stop turned up a larger quantity of methamphetamine — approximately 4.4 grams — along with more drug paraphernalia.
Dolan was arrested and charged with drug offenses, along with additional charges connected to the Aug. 8 incident. He was confined without bond at the Dare County Detention Center.
Sheriff K. Sawyer said the office remains committed to addressing illegal drug activity and other criminal offenses throughout Tyrrell County.
