EDENTON — A man wanted in connection with a Wednesday evening shooting near the intersection of Dillard Street and Paradise Road surrendered Friday morning at the Chowan County Courthouse, the Edenton Police Department announced.

Lonnie Wilson, of Edenton, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon, and discharging a firearm within city limits in connection with the shooting, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. May 13.

Detectives worked through the night gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses and pursuing leads. Police said Wilson surrendered voluntarily and was taken into custody without incident. He is being held without bond pending his first court appearance.

The victim remains hospitalized and is recovering from injuries sustained in the shooting, police said.

The Edenton Police Department coordinated with the Chowan County Sheriff’s Office throughout the investigation.

EPD Chief David LaFon credited the community with helping bring the case to resolution.

“We are grateful for the support and assistance provided by the community,” LaFon said, calling that partnership “essential to keeping our town and its neighborhoods safe.”

LaFon also issued a broader warning about gun violence.

“The Edenton Police Department remains committed to protecting our residents,” he said. “We want to be clear, gun violence will not be tolerated in our community. We will continue to pursue every lead, use every resource, and work with every partner necessary to ensure that those who endanger our citizens are held accountable.”

Investigators said they are continuing to review evidence, including witness statements and forensic findings, to determine whether additional charges or suspects are involved. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Edenton Police Department at 252-482-4444.
