EDENTON — Edenton officials will hold a public hearing Tuesday night, April 14, 2026, on a proposed $13.6 million expansion of a federal grant program that could shape future infrastructure and community development projects in the town.

The Edenton Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. April 14 in Council Chambers at 504 S. Broad St., with Mayor Pro Tem Elton Bond presiding. The meeting will also be available via Zoom (Meeting ID: 252 482 2155, passcode: 458434) and by phone at 301-715-8592.

At the center of the agenda is a public hearing on an amendment to the town’s 2021 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Neighborhood Revitalization Program. The proposed change would seek an additional $13.6 million to fund “public facilities and improvements.”

While the funding request signals a potential investment, the agenda packet does not identify specific projects or neighborhoods that would receive the funds.

Council members will also take public input on a separate item tied to future CDBG funding. The town expects to apply for additional grants over the next year, with officials outlining requirements tied to income eligibility, allowable uses and protections against displacement.

CDBG funding, administered through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is commonly used by local governments for infrastructure upgrades, housing improvements and other projects aimed at benefiting low- to moderate-income residents.

Public hearings are a required step in the process and are intended to gather community input before funding decisions are finalized.

Residents may speak during the hearings or during the general public comment period, which is limited to three minutes per speaker.

The agenda also includes presentations from North Carolina Historic Sites and the Chowan County Tax Office, along with consideration of a Fair Housing Month proclamation.
