PLYMOUTH — North Carolina Board Association (NCSBA) recently elected Carlos Riddick, member of the Washington County Board of Education, as association president. His election took place during the NCSBA’s annual conference, held Nov. 12-14 in Greensboro. This marks the first time a board member from Washington County has been chosen to lead the statewide organization.

Riddick, who serves as vice chairman of the Washington County Board of Education and president of the North Carolina School Boards Trust, brings a lifetime of service and leadership to his new role.

Riddick has dedicated his life to serving others. Alongside his wife, Jennifer, he pastors the United Full Gospel Revival Center in Elizabeth City, a ministry they describe as “the greatest church in the world.” Together, they have cultivated a strong family and a legacy of love and service as parents and grandparents.

Riddick’s vocational journey began at just 13 years old, when he entered the funeral service profession — a calling that blossomed into the co-founding of the Paradise House of Funerals in Plymouth with partner Omar Pearsall. Known for its compassion and excellence, the funeral home is a testament to Riddick’s belief that true leadership begins with serving people in their most vulnerable moments.

His work as a public servant extends beyond ministry and business and into the heart of public education. Riddick has consistently championed the belief that every child deserves equal opportunity and every community deserves strong, visionary leadership. His election as NCSBA President reflects not only his personal dedication but also the commitment of Washington County Schools to ensuring quality education for all.

“This is a proud moment not only for Carlos but also for the people of Washington County,” said David O. White, superintendent of Washington County Schools. “His journey is a powerful reminder that where you start does not define where you can go. His leadership will inspire others just as he has inspired us.”

Other executive officers include Cherokee County School Board Member Jeff Tatham (President-Elect), Scotland County Schools Board Chair Rick Singletary (Vice President), and Rockingham County School Board Vice Chair Kimberly McMichael (Treasurer).

The North Carolina School Boards Association is a nonprofit that supports and advocates for school boards across the state, working to advance quality public education and empower local school board members through training, services, and legislative advocacy.
