Multiple counties hosting Veterans Day observances November 10-14
NORTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA – Communities across northeastern North Carolina are coming together this week to honor military veterans with ceremonies, performances, and special events marking Veterans Day 2025.
From the Outer Banks to the Inner Banks, municipalities and organizations have planned numerous activities from November 10-14 to recognize the service and sacrifice of veterans and active-duty military personnel.
Dare County
Outer Banks Veterans Week runs through November 15 and features various events, concerts, and ceremonies designed to showcase the Outer Banks as a welcoming destination for veterans, active-duty military, and their families.
Dare County is also participating in Operation Green Light 2025, encouraging residents and businesses to display green lights on their homes or buildings through November 11 to honor veterans. More information is available at DareNC.gov/GreenLight.
Tuesday, November 11: Veterans Day Ceremonies
Chowan County
In Edenton, American Legion Post 40 will host its Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Due to inclement weather, the observance has been moved indoors to the American Legion Post 40 Main Hall at 1317 W. Queen Street. The ceremony is normally held outdoors at Memorial Park.
Refreshments will be served following the ceremony, and all veterans and members of the public are welcome to attend.
Dare County
Four Outer Banks municipalities will host Veterans Day ceremonies on Tuesday:
Town of Manteo begins the day at 10 a.m. at the Dare County Veterans Memorial, with the American Legion hosting the ceremony.
At 11 a.m., the Town of Southern Shores will hold its observance at Southern Shores Town Hall, hosted by the Knights of Columbus, while the Town of Nags Head conducts its ceremony at Nags Head Town Hall, presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The Town of Kill Devil Hills concludes the morning ceremonies at 12:30 p.m. at the Kill Devil Hills Veterans Memorial, with the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Knights of Columbus participating.
Pasquotank County
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6060 will host a Veterans Day event starting at noon at the post in 1433 N. Road St., Elizabeth City. After the event, the post will serve complimentary refreshments and food.
Perquimans County
American Legion Post 126, Hertford, will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Perquimans County Recreation Center, 310 S. Granby St., Hertford, due to the projected inclement weather.
Washington County
Creswell’s American Legion Post 0391 will host a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Philippi Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, located at 74 Old Cherry Road in Creswell. Commissioner Carol Phelps can be reached at 252-799-7118 for more information. All veterans and the public are invited.

Veterans Day Job Fair & Resource Expo
NCWorks Career Centers serving Pasquotank and Chowan Counties will host a Veterans Day Job Fair & Resource Expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Museum of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City. The event is open to veterans and the general public. A specialist who assists those with hearing difficulties will be available to assist participants.
Saturday, November 15
Outer Banks Veterans Week Concludes
Dare County wraps up its Veterans Week celebration with two special events:
The 13th Annual Outer Banks Veterans Writing Workshop takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese. The workshop is free for veterans, active-duty military, and their families, but pre-registration is required.
That evening, the Pioneer Theater in downtown Manteo hosts “An Evening with Joseph Bathanti,” North Carolina’s Poet Laureate, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for veterans and active-duty military, and $10 for general admission.
Statewide Veterans Benefits
Throughout the week, veterans can take advantage of special offers across North Carolina:
The North Carolina Zoo is offering free admission from November 8-14 for military personnel, veterans, and their spouses, including up to three additional guests.
All three North Carolina Aquariums will provide free admission on November 11 for veterans, active, reserve, or retired military personnel with valid identification, along with their spouses and dependents.
