HERTFORD — When the Perquimans County Board of Commissioners meets Monday night, it will do so following the resignation of Jackie Greene, the county’s Elections Director. Greene’s departure comes at a pivotal time as the county prepares not only for upcoming municipal and nonpartisan election season but the 2026 election cycle.

Greene’s resignation has not been publicly addressed by county officials, but it marks a significant leadership change in an office responsible for overseeing elections during an era of heightened public scrutiny and complex rule changes across North Carolina. Greene’s exit leaves the Board of Elections with the task of recruiting and appointing a new director ahead of the Nov. 4 election cycle but the March primary.

The Board of Commissioners meets at 7 p.m. at the Perquimans County Library meeting room in Hertford. The meeting is open to the public.
