EDENTON — The Edenton Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, to take up a full agenda that includes a major economic development proposal, and several budget amendments.
A highlight of the evening will be a special presentation by Wendy McGrath of St. Vincent de Paul, the charitable organization known for its work supporting local families in need. The presentation is expected to focus on ongoing outreach efforts and potential partnerships with the town.
Three public hearings are scheduled, all related to an economic development initiative involving Provalus, a technology solutions company that will create a lot of jobs for this area. The council will consider:
- An economic development appropriation to support Provalus operations in Edenton;
- A proposed lease agreement between the town and Provalus for office or operational space;
- An installment financing agreement (IFA) to help fund infrastructure or building improvements related to the project.
The arrival of Provalus, if approved, could bring dozens of jobs to the area and boost downtown economic activity. Public input will be invited during each of the hearings.
Town Manager Corey Gooden will present several budget amendments for council approval, including:
- Funding adjustments for Project Teapot, a capital improvement initiative
- A North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) Safety Grant award for the Edenton Fire Department, which is expected to help purchase new safety gear and equipment;
- A Findings Resolution related to the Local Government Commission (LGC) application and authorization of the Installment Financing Contract (IFC), likely tied to the Provalus agreement or another infrastructure effort.
Gooden will also deliver his regular Town Manager’s Report, providing updates on ongoing projects and town operations.
