Things that make you go hmmm within NC’s 1st District…

Washington County Commissioner John Spruill posted this buzzworthy note to social media on Monday.

Eastern North Carolina is my home. I was born here, raised here, and I’ve spent my life serving the people who call this place home. I believe in our future—and I’m ready to take the next step forward. I’ll be making an important announcement starting this Thursday, June 12th at 5:15 PM on the steps of the Washington County Courthouse. Whether you were born here or moved here—I’m ready to serve each of you. Because when Eastern North Carolina succeeds, we all succeed. I invite you to stand with me. Bring your family, your friends, and your neighbors. Let’s shape the future—together.

A conservative Republican who was recently reelected as the 2nd vice chairman of the First Congressional District GOP, Spruill didn’t say what that announcement is, but he will be telling folks what his future plans are at courthouses across NC District 1 in mid June. First District includes Tyrrell, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington counties.

I’m not going to speculate what Spruill’s announcement will be, that’s his announcement to make, but I suspect there will be more to that story to come.

Speaking of politics, US Air Force veteran and four-term State Rep. Ed Goodwin, R-Chowan, District 1, posted this to social media:

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend, let us pause and reflect on the true meaning of this solemn day. We honor the brave men and women who gave their lives defending the freedoms we hold dear.

Their sacrifice is the foundation of our great nation—one built on courage, faith, and service. We owe them not just our gratitude, but our commitment to uphold the values they died to protect.

Let us teach our children why this day matters. Let us remember the fallen, support our veterans, and pray for the families who carry the weight of their loss every day.

God bless those who served, and God bless the United States of America.

Stay connected to what matters.
