EDENTON POLICE DEPARTMENT
During the week of May 9-14, Edenton Police made several traffic stops that concluded with arrests.
On May 14, Johnathan Leary, of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Edenton, was arrested during a traffic stop at the intersection of North Paradise Road and North Broad Street. Leary was charged with driving while license revoked and failure to appear, both misdemeanors. A secured bond of $1,260 was set. He was confined to the Chowan County Jail.
On May 12, Lee Dell Leary, of Oakum Street, Edenton, was taken into custody on misdemeanor charges of carrying concealed weapons, possessing up to 1/2 ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was arrested during a traffic stop at 11:20 p.m. May 12 at the intersection of North Oakum and East Freemason streets, according to the incident report.
During the stop, officers found a firearm, two glass pipes, two clear bags with white residue in a cigarette pack, and 0.17 ounces of marijuana.
A secured bond of $5,000 was set. Leary was confined to the Chowan County Jail.
Jerry Nelson Sutton Jr., Cabarrus Street, Edenton, was arrested at 2:09 p.m. May 10 after a traffic stop at the intersection of Coke Avenue and East Church Street.
According to the incident report, Sutton was stopped for allegedly making an unsafe movement and controlled substances were found in the 2002 Honda Accord he was driving. Among the items found in his vehicle were a clear baggie with 0.03 ounces of methamphetamine, 0.02 ounces of cocaine, and 15 ounces of marijuana.
Sutton faces charges of Possession with intent to sell and distribute methamphetamine (a felony), maintaining a clear distance with a vehicle (a felony), possession of drug paraphernalia (a misdemeanor), driving while license revoked (a misdemeanor) and safe movement violation (a misdemeanor). A secured bond of $13,000 was set.
In other news, a homeless man was arrested for the second time this month. On May 10, police arrested Raymond Silverthorne, homeless, on misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure and resisting an officer. He was arrested after a passerby reported him allegedly lying naked on the steps of a building on North Granville Street. While being arrested, he refused to put his legs in the patrol vehicle. A secured bond of $2,000 was set. Silverthorne was confined to the Chowan County Jail.
Silverthorne was also arrested on May 3 for throwing eight planters containing flowers at Food Lion’s front door.
On May 9, the Edenton Police took a report of an injury to personal property at the Boys and Girls Club, located at 824 N. Oakum St., Edenton. According to the report, at 1:17 p.m., the victim reported that both tires on the passenger side of her 2009 Honda Accord were slashed. Each tire was valued at $200.
