BY MILES LAYTON

The 71st annual Chowan County 4-H Livestock Show and Sale offered excitement and a chance for the community to show its support for the 4-H kids.

More than 60 buyers and around 49 participants showed off their hard work Tuesday at the American Legion Fairgrounds.  See our list of sellers/buyers below.

Why do should the local newspaper report on the annual livestock auction?

Answer – the 4-H kids spend A LOT of time raising their animals and getting them ready for the auction – an experience that teaches valuable lessons and lifelong skills.

Auction offers the community a chance to show its support.

And it is fun to watch the auction – to see the kids’ faces light up when the auctioneer is shouting out bids, especially when there is a bidding war.

Camryn Pippins won the big trophy – Senior Showmanship – congrats!

Last note, names and spellings come from 4-H and cross-checked with my notes.

Many of these Chowan Middle or John A. Holmes High School students earned spots on the Honor Roll, perhaps attended prom.
