EDENTON — After I crossed East Queen Street early Tuesday evening, I greeted a prominent community leader, and we talked about the tragic news – the fatal highway accident.
We both agreed that Jim Parrish was a beloved family man, a devoted Aces’ fan and a dedicated Christian who will be missed. Our prayers are with the Parrish family.
Per our story Tuesday evening, Parrish was killed in an accident around 12:20 p.m. earlier that day when his tractor and a tanker truck collided on NC 32 near the Sound bridge. More about Parrish’s life will appear in a future story.
According to the obituary notice, Jimmie Moore “Jim” Parrish III, 48, of Schooner Landing Drive, died Tuesday, March 25, from injuries received in a highway accident.
Parrish’s tractor veered off the road into the ditch and rolled over – he was thrown from the vehicle; he died at the scene. I kept my word to the NC Highway Patrol about releasing the name – Highway Patrol confirmed the name.
According to the obituary notice, a memorial service dedicated to Parrish’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Edenton Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Koby Strawser and the Rev. Gary Mickey. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in his memory be made to the Edenton Aces Athletics Program, Attn: Terri Dunn, Edenton-Chowan Schools, P.O. Box 206, Edenton, NC 27932.
