Church is over so let’s share a bit of good news…

‘Twas announced at St. Paul’s on Sunday that former Edenton Mayor Roland Vaughan has beaten cancer – a 9-year battle.
Prayers are answered – that is excellent news.
Vaughan served as Edenton’s Mayor for 24 years.

Perhaps Vaughan’s greatest accomplishment as mayor was leading the effort to transform the waterfront into a stellar public place and weaving the downtown economy into an important segment of the overall Chowan County economic base.
Within months of Vaughan being sworn in as Mayor in December 1995, he challenged the Council to identify and maximize assets, so he appointed a blue ribbon commission made of people with knowledge and skills, and before you knew it, there was a plan. Four years later, the breakwater, harbor and slips were built and dedicated for use.
Millions of dollars in water infrastructure upgrades can be attributed to Vaughan’s leadership, such as the $3.75 million Beaver Hill water plant that went online in November of 2019.
First Lady of Edenton, Peggy Anne Vaughan, was presented the Edenton Historical Commission Lifetime Achievement Award last fall.
Though Roland and Peggy presently preside in Raleigh, their hearts will forever be in Edenton.
