Lawrence had led the system on an interim basis since August

EDENTON — Good news!!!

Congratulations Michele!

The Pettigrew Regional Library Board of Trustees has appointed Michele Lawrence as the system’s new regional library director, the board announced Friday.
Lawrence had served as interim regional director while also managing the Perquimans and Shepard-Pruden Memorial libraries. The board said she showed “exceptional leadership, dedication, and professionalism” during her interim tenure.
The board said it approved the selection committee’s recommendation after a thorough search process. In a statement, trustees said they are confident her experience and leadership “will continue to strengthen” the regional library system and its services.
The appointment follows a period of turnover at the top of the regional system. Nate King resigned as regional director in May 2026 and left the post July 31. His successor, Anna Louise Kallas, resigned in early August, only days after taking over. Kallas had previously served as Shepard-Pruden librarian before being promoted to regional librarian.
In August, the board named Lawrence, who was then Perquimans librarian, as interim director.
