PLYMOUTH — Police here are investigating a shooting that left a 19-year-old man injured late Friday night, according to the Plymouth Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Somerset Drive at approximately 10:57 p.m. Friday, July 17, after receiving reports of gunfire, according to a press release issued Tuesday from Plymouth Police Chief Louis Banks. While they were en route, Washington County Communications received a separate call reporting that a gunshot victim had arrived at Washington Regional Medical Center.
Officers responded to both locations and confirmed that the victim, identified as Kenyen Nasheen Gibson, 19, of Plymouth, had suffered a gunshot wound. Gibson was later airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for further treatment. His current condition has not been released.
According to the preliminary investigation, Gibson was shot near the intersection of Somerset Drive and Albemarle Drive.
Plymouth police, assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, processed the scene and recovered physical evidence, including spent shell casings and other items of evidentiary value.
No arrests have been made, and investigators are continuing to follow leads to determine what led to the shooting and identify those responsible.
Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and that additional information will be released as it becomes available, provided doing so does not compromise the case.
