Tyler brings 26 years of experience in education to her new position, having served in a variety of roles throughout her career. She began as a classroom teacher, instructing students in science and social studies before later stepping in to teach English Language Arts when needed.

“Those experiences reinforced my belief that every child deserves a dedicated educator who is willing to do whatever it takes to help them succeed,” Tyler said.

After finding success in the classroom, Tyler transitioned into the role of instructional coach, supporting teachers as they strengthened their instruction and classroom leadership skills. She went on to serve as an assistant principal in Halifax County, Beaufort County and Weldon City Schools, working with both elementary and middle school students.

“Each position has reinforced my passion for building strong schools where students, families, and educators work together to achieve excellence,” Tyler said.

For Tyler, the heart of the job has always been the students.

“What I enjoy most about being an educator is the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of children,” she said. “I have always been passionate about student success and believe that every child deserves someone who believes in their potential. I especially value being a voice for students whose needs may otherwise go unheard.”

Tyler said she recognizes that not every family has the resources or knowledge to advocate for their children, and she sees that as part of her job.

“Many parents want the very best for their children but may not always know how to advocate for them,” she said. “As an educator and school leader, I see it as my responsibility to partner with families, ensure every child has opportunities to thrive, and create an environment where all students feel safe, seen, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential.”

Though she is new to the district, Tyler said she has long admired the sense of community found in small, rural school systems.

“Although I am new to Tyrrell County, I have always appreciated the close-knit nature of small, rural communities,” she said. “There is something special about serving in a district where you have the opportunity to know every child by name, build meaningful relationships with families, and become an active part of the community.”

Tyler said she is looking forward to getting to know the district and its people.

“I look forward to learning more about Tyrrell County, embracing its traditions, and working alongside our dedicated staff, families, and community partners to provide the best possible educational experience for every student,” she said.

Looking ahead, Tyler said she is eager to begin working with the Tyrrell Elementary School community.

“I am excited about the future of Tyrrell Elementary School and look forward to working together to ensure that every child grows academically, socially, and emotionally,” she said. “I believe that when schools and communities work hand in hand, there is no limit to what our students can achieve.”
