GATESVILLE — The Gates County Board of Education approved a series of personnel actions at its meetings on May 27, June 8, June 16 and June 29, including dozens of staff transfers between schools, several new hires, resignations, an athletics appointment and volunteer approvals.
For whatever reason, God put this information in my inbox today, which means He wants me to post it.
And the Board of Education sent this to me to preserve and promote transparency. Note that Buckland Elementary is closing, so those folks will be working at other schools when classes start in August; a lot of changes, maybe more to come before the first class bell rings.
Last note: I remember when newspapers included this information at the end of their stories, so I’ll start doing the same more often across our region.
For now, here’s what ya got:
May 27
The board approved 30 employee transfers across the district’s schools and central office. Several employees changed roles as well as locations:
- Amanda Dillard moved from EC Teacher/Compliance Specialist at Gatesville Elementary School (GES) to EC Director/Preschool Coordinator.
- Devin Riddick moved from Teacher Assistant at GES to Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent/Clerk to the Board of Education.
- Heidi Bright moved from Receptionist at Central Office (CO) to Secretary at T.S. Cooper School (TSC).
- Janet Lilley moved from Bookkeeper at Buckland Elementary School (BES) to Secretary at GES.
The remaining transfers were largely teacher and teacher assistant moves between Buckland Elementary, Gatesville Elementary, Central Middle School (CMS) and T.S. Cooper School:

June 8
New hires: The board approved Michaela Futrell as a Math Teacher at Gates County High School and Keith Roscoe as a Substitute Teacher.
Transfers: Four employees changed positions, including Devin Riddick, who moved again — this time from Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent/Clerk to the Board of Education, back to Teacher Assistant at Gatesville Elementary School. Also approved were:
- Lauren Smith: EC Teacher, BES → EC Teacher, CMS
- Rosalind Rosa: Principal, CMS → Assistant Principal, Gates County High School (GCHS)
- Katron Greene: H/PE Teacher, TSC → Health/PE Teacher, CMS
Additional duty assignments were approved for Lauren Hargett, Kristen Ward, Lisa Taylor and Dr. Chante Jordan.
Resignations: The board accepted resignations from Faye Moore (Child Nutrition), Steven Harrell (Chief Finance Officer) and Devin Riddick (Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent/Clerk to the Board of Education).
Athletics: Todd Hargett was approved as a van driver for high school athletics.
Volunteers: The board approved volunteer status for Weldon McKnight at Gates County High School and George Kee, who will volunteer with the high school’s athletics program.
June 16
The board approved a transfer for Erika Harrell to Payroll Specialist at Central Office.
Two resignations were also accepted: Rosalind Rosa, who had just been named Assistant Principal at GCHS on June 8, resigned from her position as Principal of Central Middle School, and Debra Smith resigned as Payroll Specialist at Central Office.
June 29
New hire: Emma Rotzler was approved as a CTE Teacher at Central Middle School.
Rehire: Carolyn Hinkle was approved as an EC Teacher Assistant at Gates County High School.
Transfers: Five staff transfers were approved:
- Krystal Williams: Principal, Buckland Elementary School → Principal, Central Middle School
- Christina Wiedenfeld: Long-term Substitute, Central Middle School → CTE Teacher, Central Middle School
- Angela Pierce: EC Teacher Assistant, Gatesville Elementary School → Teacher Assistant, Gatesville Elementary School
- Lelita Valentine: Substitute Custodian, Gatesville Elementary School → Part-time Custodian, Gatesville Elementary School
- Cindy Barber: Behavior Support Coordinator, District → OCS Coordinator, Gates County High School
Additional duty assignments were approved for Melissa Bembry, Shvone Lassiter, Crystal Jacox, Crystal Craig, Susan Brown, Heather Turner, Mary Hobbs and Laura Dickerson.
Resignations: The board accepted resignations from Susan Kienitz (Substitute Teacher, Buckland Elementary School), Stephanie McKinley (EC Teacher Assistant, Gates County High School), Shvone Lassiter (Assistant Athletic Director, Central Middle School) and Mary Whitley (EC Teacher, Gatesville Elementary School).
