Doughnuts!? A naked dude and a wrecked police cruiser — yep…

It started with a 911 call about a naked man wandering near a strip mall. It ended with a totaled police car and a driver facing traffic charges.

Plymouth Police Department detective Mika Martinez was out of her unmarked Ford Taurus and approaching a reported “naked loiterer” near Roses department store in the pre-dawn hours of June 19 when a pickup truck barreled into her empty patrol car on U.S. Highway 64 — adding an unexpected twist to what was already an unusual early morning call, according to the Roanoke Beacon, Northeast North Carolina’s trusted news source. For more crime news, see this week’s Roanoke Beacon.

The 911 dispatch came in at 4:42 a.m., reporting a male subject loitering in the area who was allegedly in the nude. PPD and Washington County deputies responded, locating the man near a nearby Dunkin’. They do make good doughnuts.

PPD Chief Louis Banks noted the suspect fell somewhat short of the dramatic description — he was wearing a T-shirt and boxers — but Martinez had stepped out of her vehicle to address the situation when the crash occurred.

With emergency lights flashing on the stopped Taurus, Phillip Cox of Roper failed to slow his 2013 Ford pickup and plowed into the cruiser, crushing its left quarter panel and sending the truck careening off the roadway into a tree. Both vehicles were towed. The Taurus was declared a total loss.

NC Highway Patrol charged Cox with failure to yield and failure to reduce speed when necessary. No injuries were reported.

As for the man in the boxers who started it all — Chief Banks declined to identify him or confirm whether he faced any charges.

Tyrrell County

Tyrrell County Sheriff K. Sawyer announces the arrest of Daquan Spencer, 33, of Columbia, North Carolina, following a traffic stop of the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office.

During the traffic stop, probable cause was developed that led to the discovery of marijuana, along with a digital scale and a large amount of U.S. currency, all of which are consistent with the distribution of illegal narcotics.

As a result of the investigation, Spencer was charged with:

â€˘    Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Marijuana
