SWAN QUARTER — A man is facing dozens of criminal charges following a lengthy investigation into a series of break-ins at Engelhard Medical Center, the Hyde County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Thomas Andrew Jackson, check out the Wolverine t-shirt, was taken into custody after investigators linked him to five separate incidents at the medical facility spanning roughly eighteen months — on November 10, 2024; April 5, 2025; April 6, 2025; July 7, 2025; and April 26, 2026.

Investigators collected and analyzed evidence, conducted witness interviews, and reviewed surveillance footage before identifying Jackson as a suspect.

Jackson now faces more than two dozen charges, including three counts of felony breaking and entering, three counts of breaking and entering a pharmacy, six counts of trafficking opium or heroin, two counts of trafficking amphetamine, and multiple counts of felony possession of controlled substances and burglary tools, among others.

He is being held at the Dare County Detention Center on a $500,000 secured bond.

Sheriff G. Cahoon praised his investigators’ work on the case.

“These incidents affected an important healthcare facility that serves our community,” Cahoon said. “Our investigators remained committed to pursuing every lead and ensuring those responsible were held accountable. I am proud of the work that led to this arrest and grateful for the cooperation received throughout the investigation.”

The sheriff’s office also thanked partner agencies that assisted in the investigation. Authorities say the investigation remains active and additional charges or arrests may be possible.
