CHOWAN COUNTY — Eight people were injured Sunday after a minivan overturned on NC 37 in Chowan County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded at approximately 11:25 a.m. to a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Alexander Road — that’s the accident I was talking about from Sunday.

A 2026 Chrysler Pacifica carrying eight occupants was traveling west on NC 37 when the vehicle drifted off the right side of the roadway.

The driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross the centerline and run off the left side of the road, where it struck a culvert and overturned, coming to rest in a roadside ditch.

Two occupants were airlifted to a medical facility in Greenville for treatment. The six remaining occupants were taken to a local hospital.

The severity of injuries was not immediately released.

The names of those involved in the accident have not been released.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the investigation remains ongoing.

Deputies from the Chowan County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control assistance following a vehicle crash.

“The emergency response to the scene was a professional and combined effort characterized by a high-level of professionalism. This coordinated response involved several organizations, including Chowan County EMS, the Edenton Fire Department, the NCSHP, EastCare, and the Chowan County Sheriff’s Office,” Chief Deputy John McArthur said.

As I wrote on Sunday, prayers for all involved.
