Editor’s note: Gates County folks, this email is circulating near and far to local leaders throughout the community — I think you should be aware that things are talked about regarding Gates County Schools’ leadership.
Flashback — see our story from Wednesday’s meeting where Gates County Commissioners grilled Superintendent Barry Williams. Also, see our story about the nuts and bolts from Williams’ budget presentation.

Board of Education Elected Leadership,
I am sending this email to you as an individual member of the Board of Commissioners to note concerns with moving forward towards a realistic budget this year as well as our long-term relationship between our two boards.
I applaud your efforts tremendously and the time you are all investing in moving forward with the challenges before us, especially as you have an evolving new membership with only a short time in your roles. Fortunately, the diverse makeup of your board is undoubtedly aiding you in your roles. The independent experiences all your board members have, is significant.
Having said that, I must note a “total loss of confidence” in the Administrative staff that works to implement your leadership intent. This is especially true of the Superintendent but also others in that Central office core.
I will refrain from noting a list of complaints here but feel it is my belief that our current budget process will likely drive us towards many more difficult but unnecessary encounters over the budget before we get to a jointly acceptable and implementable outcome.
While I realize this will appear condescending, I encourage you to consider how we can progress with the current status quo.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
David Forsythe
Gates County Commissioner
Sunbury/Corapeake District
