EDENTON — The ECU Health Chowan Hospital Development Council recently hosted its annual Women’s Giving Circle meeting, welcoming nearly 60 members for an evening of fellowship, reflection, and purpose to Hayes Farm. Attendees learned how their collective generosity continues to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of patients and families throughout the local community and within ECU Health Chowan Hospital.

Founded in 2017, the Women’s Giving Circle has grown into a powerful force for community support. Since its inception, the initiative has funded 26 projects totaling more than $110,000, directly benefiting patients, families, and care teams across a variety of hospital departments.

This year, the Women’s Giving Circle will once again extend its reach by contributing funds toward the refurbishment of the ECU Health Chowan Hospital Birthing Center, along with additional projects designed to enhance patient care and support families across the continuum of care.

Over the years, Giving Circle contributions have supported programs and equipment for Labor and Delivery, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation, and the Wound Clinic. These investments have helped provide both advanced medical tools and compassionate resources for patients and families during critical moments of care.

Past purchases include:

  • A Spot Vision Screener, which detects vision issues in children as young as six months old
  • A Halo Bassinet, offering safer and more accessible newborn care, particularly for mothers recovering from cesarean sections
  • A CuddleCot, a specialized device that supports families experiencing the heartbreaking loss of an infant by allowing them additional time to bond and grieve

“The Women’s Giving Circle exemplifies the power of collective giving,” said Jennifer Harriss, ECU Health Chowan Hospital Development Manager. “Each contribution—large or small—helps us provide more compassionate, high-quality care for the patients and families who rely on our hospital.”

Through continued generosity and engagement, the Women’s Giving Circle remains committed to strengthening health care services and improving outcomes for individuals and families in the communities ECU Health Chowan Hospital serves.
