EDENTON — Winning bids, smiles and squealing pigs were the highlights of the Chowan County 4-H Livestock Show and Sale, which was held Tuesday at the American Legion Fairgrounds in Edenton. Folks from near and far came out to cheer on our hardworking youth as they showcased the animals they’ve been raising and caring for over the last several months.

This year, 59 youth exhibitors showed 48 hogs, 4 lambs, and 7 goats.

We’ll update this story as sales figures are finalized, but for now, here is a preliminary list. See our list of sellers/buyers below.  A lot of big bids — wow!

The Willis Ray Memorial Trophy was awarded to Camryn Pippins.

Why do should the local newspaper report on the annual livestock auction?

Answer – the 4-H kids spend A LOT of time raising their animals and getting them ready for the auction – an experience that teaches valuable lessons and lifelong skills.

Auction offers the community a chance to show its support.

And it is fun to watch the auction – to see the kids’ faces light up when the auctioneer is shouting out bids, especially when there is a bidding war.
