COLUMBIA — The 77th Tyrrell County 4-H Livestock Show and Sale was held Tuesday, April 14, in Columbia. A total of 26 youth participated in this year’s event, exhibiting 31 animals, including eight hogs, 11 lambs and 12 goats.
Participation in 4-H livestock programs helps youth develop a wide range of life skills beyond the show ring. Through daily animal care, participants learn responsibility, while record-keeping requirements strengthen their ability to track expenses, feed and animal growth. Youth also build time management, communication and confidence as they balance responsibilities, interact with peers and present their animals. Hands-on experiences further enhance problem-solving and decision-making skills.
