Recreation departments across northeastern North Carolina are opening registration for spring youth athletic programs, with offerings ranging from T-ball for toddlers to competitive soccer leagues for teenagers. Families have several options available this spring. Several registration deadlines fall within the next two weeks.

Several programs allow out-of-county registration, which may cost extra.

Below is a county-by-county guide to currently available programs. Families are encouraged to contact their county’s recreation department directly for the most current schedules and availability, as we have information for some counties but not all of the counties in our coverage area.

Perquimans County

The Perquimans County Recreation Department, headquartered at 310 Granby St. in Hertford, is registering youth for spring soccer and volleyball. Both programs carry a $20 registration fee, payable by cash or check, and share a Feb. 27 deadline. Walk-in registration assistance is available Saturday, Feb. 21 at the department office. Soccer is open to boys and girls ages 4-12. Volleyball is open to girls ages 8-13.

Registration for youth baseball, softball and T-ball is also open, with an extended deadline of March 25. Registration may be completed in person at 310 Granby St. or by mail at P.O. Box 538, Hertford, N.C. 27944. For more information, call 252-426-5695.

Chowan County

The Edenton Chowan Recreation Department has spring sports registration open through Sunday, March 2. Families may register online at secure.rec1.com/NC/chowan-county-nc/catalog or in person at the ECRD office. For questions about available sports, age groups and fees, call 252-482-8595.

Pasquotank County

The Elizabeth City/Pasquotank County Recreation Department has multiple spring youth leagues open for registration.

The Youth Soccer League runs Tuesday, April 14 through Tuesday, June 2, with games on Tuesdays and Thursdays at River Road Sports Complex, 1701 River Road, Elizabeth City. The league is open to children ages 3-15; participants must be 3 years old before May 1, 2026. The fee is $55 per participant, with a $20 surcharge for out-of-county residents. Registration closes March 20. Families can register by age group: ages 3-4ages 5-6ages 7-9ages 10-12 and ages 13-15. No refunds will be issued after April 14.

The Spring Baseball League runs Monday, May 11 through Thursday, June 11, with games Monday through Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at South Park Complex, 110 Capital Trace, Elizabeth City. The league is open to children ages 5-15; participants must be 5 years old by May 1, 2026. The fee is $55 per participant, with a $20 surcharge for out-of-county residents. Registration closes April 9. Families can register by age group: ages 5-6ages 7-8ages 9-10ages 11-12 and ages 13-15. No refunds will be issued after April 9.

All participants must complete a Youth Liability and Disclaimer Waiver before their league’s start date. For more information, contact Knobbs Creek Recreation Center at 252-335-1424.

Camden County

Camden County Parks and Recreation has spring registration open for youth baseball, softball and T-ball. Families can register online at secure.rec1.com/NC/camden-county-nc/catalog. For information on age divisions, fees and deadlines, visit the registration portal or contact the department directly.

Currituck County

Currituck County Parks and Recreation typically offers spring youth programs including soccer, girls volleyball, T-ball, baseball, softball and junior tennis. Registration is available online, by mail or in person at the Currituck Community Center, 130 Community Way, Barco. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A $10 late fee per child applies to registrations received after the posted deadline, and late registrations are accepted only while roster space remains. Volunteer coaches are needed for all age groups. For current spring 2026 deadlines, fees and program availability, call 252-232-3007 or visit the department’s registration page.

Dare County

Dare County Parks and Recreation serves residents across three geographic divisions. A non-resident fee of 50 percent above the standard rate applies to participants who do not reside in Dare County, and a $5 late fee applies to registrations submitted after a program’s deadline. Families can register at the agency’s program page  or by contacting the appropriate divisional office.

The Northern Beach Division serves Kill Devil Hills and surrounding areas. Programs include volleyball, basketball, pickleball, dance and gymnastics. A free after-school program is available to middle and high school students from 3-8 p.m. on weekdays during the school year and requires membership registration. The division is located at Family Recreation Park, 602 Mustian St., Kill Devil Hills. Call 252-475-5920 or email RecPark@DareNC.gov.

The Roanoke Island/Mainland Division serves Manteo, Wanchese, Manns Harbor, the Town of Nags Head and the Dare County mainland. It is located at Lions Club Center at Westcott Park, 1000 Westcott Park Road, Manteo. Call 252-475-5910 or email rec@darenc.gov. Volunteer coaches interested in serving this division must pass a background check and complete Dare County Parks and Recreation training before the season.

The Hatteras Island Division is based at the Fessenden Center in Buxton.

Washington County

The Washington County Recreation Department provides year-round athletic programs for youth ages 5-18, with an emphasis on teamwork, physical fitness and self-confidence. The department is located at the Washington Street Gym, 603 Adams St., Plymouth. Contact director Randy Fulford at 252-793-6607 or rfulford@washconc.org for current spring 2026 schedules and registration details.

Additional youth athletic leagues operating independently in the area include the Washington Youth Baseball LeagueEast Carolina Futbol Club and the Washington Youth Football and Cheer League. For information on city-based youth programming, contact Washington Parks and Recreation at 252-975-9643.

Hertford County

The Ahoskie Recreation Center serves as the hub for organized youth sports and activities in Hertford County. Families are encouraged to contact the center directly pf visit their Facebook page for spring 2026 program offerings, registration dates and fees.

Hertford County 4-H, administered through N.C. State Extension, provides year-round youth development programming in STEM, leadership and civic engagement for school-age youth throughout the county.

Gates County

The Gates County Community Center, located at 112 Court St. in Gatesville, is the primary provider of youth recreational programming in the county. For spring 2026 sports registration information, including available programs, deadlines and fees, contact the center directly or check the department’s Facebook page for announcements.

The Gates County Community Partnership, a local nonprofit, also organizes youth development programming including sports camps and educational initiatives. Bertie County

The Bertie County Parks and Recreation Department operates the Bertie County Recreational Complex on King Street in Windsor, a multi-use facility featuring baseball fields, soccer fields, a multi-use athletic field and playgrounds. Families should contact the department directly for spring 2026 registration information, schedules and fees.

The Bertie County YMCA in Windsor also provides youth sports, health and wellness programs. For membership and program information, call 252-795-9622.

Bertie County 4-H, led by agent Toniqua Young, offers year-round programs in STEM, leadership, drone and cooking competitions and career exploration for high school students. All programs are open to Bertie County youth. Contact Young at 252-794-6177 or visit bertie.ces.ncsu.edu.
