PLYMOUTH — Three people were injured in a shooting Friday afternoon on East Main Street after Plymouth police responded to reports of a disturbance involving multiple individuals and gunfire.
According to the Plymouth Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of E. Main Street at approximately 3:23 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2. Upon arrival, officers observed a large crowd leaving the area while gunshots were still being heard.
Police located a 19-year-old male of Plymouth in the driveway of 513 E. Main Street suffering from a gunshot wound to his right leg. A 51-year-old female of Plymouth was found in the front yard of the same residence with a gunshot wound to her left arm. A third victim, a 26-year-old female of Plymouth, was located inside the residence with a gunshot wound to the right side of her neck.
After officers secured the scene, all three victims were transported by Washington County EMS to Washington Regional Medical Center. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were later airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for additional treatment.
Police said both female victims were treated and released. The male victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and is assisting the Plymouth Police Department with the case. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details regarding suspects or the circumstances surrounding the shooting have been released at this time.
Plymouth Police Chief Louis Banks expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by responding agencies, including the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
