GATESVILLE — What a wonderful parade!

Saturday’s weather was right, lots of candy and plenty of parade floats, tractors, classic or fast cars, fire trucks and more — this is small town America at its best, where we can come together as a community to watch the Christmas parade organized by the Gates County Lions Club.

Whether they were in the parade or along downtown streets, people waved to each other and there was a strong sense of hometown pride.    

I like small town parades – everyone participates from middle school to the farmers to the high school marching band and local elected officials. Families come out to watch the parade march through towns all across Northeastern NC.

Saturday was a sunny, nice day – so after Edenton’s Christmas parade that morning, I opted to travel to Gatesville and check out their parade – glad I did.  A gallery of photos appears below — That parade offered a little bit of everything.

Kids were smiling, Gates County High School’s JROTC led the parade; Red Barons’ marching band was playing — see this video:
