With temperatures expected to remain below freezing into Tuesday morning—raising concerns about black ice and untreated secondary roads—school systems across the region have announced schedule changes for Tuesday, December 9:

According to the National Weather Service, once the advisory ends at midnight, no additional hazardous weather is expected through the remainder of the week. Temperatures are forecast to gradually rise, helping melt any accumulation by late Tuesday afternoon.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts, avoid unnecessary travel overnight, and use caution on potentially icy roads Tuesday morning.

Edenton-Chowan Schools

  • All school buildings and district offices will be closed.
  • John A. Holmes High School will operate on a Remote Instruction Day.

Tyrrell County Schools

  • Officials will reassess conditions, with the possibility of moving to a closure or remote learning. A final update is expected by 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Once again, an over-hyped “storm” resulting in mass government closures. Sure made the drive from Hertford to Portsmouth for outpatient surgery at 0645 pretty pleasant. Roads were dry and clean, no black ice to be seen, and very light traffic.
