Northeastern North Carolina is bracing for the first accumulating snowfall of the season as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield issues a Winter Weather Advisory for the region beginning 2 p.m. Monday and continuing through midnight.

The advisory covers Pasquotank, Camden, Chowan, and Perquimans counties, where 1 to 2 inches of snow are expected, with locally higher amounts possible. Snow is forecast to begin late Monday morning or around midday and continue into the evening.

Snow Expected to Impact Midday and Evening Travel

Forecasters say snow may begin falling as early as 11 a.m., with accumulation occurring quickly as temperatures drop. The heaviest snowfall is expected during the afternoon, creating potentially hazardous conditions for the Monday evening commute.

The NWS warns motorists to expect slippery roads and reduced visibility, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, leave extra distance between vehicles, and check travel updates through DriveNC.gov and Virginia’s 511 system.

The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 2 p.m. to midnight Monday, with the NWS noting that even light snowfall could quickly create slippery travel conditions.

Residents across northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia are encouraged to monitor forecast updates through weather.gov and NOAA Weather Radio.
