ELIZABETH CITY — On Nov. 27, 2025, crews from the US Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City took an injured patient from a ship located 200 nautical miles offshore to a medical facility for treatment.
According to the station’s Facebook page, the MH60T and C130J duty crews conducted a long-range Medevac of a patient who suffered a severe head injury onboard the cargo ship, Wisdom Line.
“01 Life Saved! Excellent teamwork displayed by all involved,” the post said.
The video shows the large vessel in the choppy Atlantic Ocean as a Coast Guard helicopter hovers above it.
The patient and a crew member are strapped to a line and hoisted into the helicopter above. Once they are securely inside, the helicopter flies off.
According to Weather Underground website, wind gusts between 20 miles per hour and 24 miles per hour were reported between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.. Wind speeds were between 6 mph and 14 mph.
According to the Beaufort Wind Scale, winds of 19 to 24 mph can cause moderate waves to become larger with numerous whitecaps. In the video, the Wisdom Line can be seen steadily rocking back and forth steadily in the ocean.
