A community-driven initiative to foster unity, reduce violence, and strengthen neighborhood relationships

AHOSKIE — The Town of Ahoskie announces the official establishment of the Ahoskie Peace Collective, following the unanimous passage of a Town Council resolution on November 25.

This milestone marks a significant step in the Town’s commitment to building a safer, stronger, and more connected community, according to a press release from Town Hall.

The resolution formally authorizes the creation of the Ahoskie Peace Collective as a resident-led body dedicated to promoting peace, improving community relationships, and supporting collaborative approaches to conflict reduction. This initiative reflects the Town’s ongoing efforts to elevate civic engagement, empower residents, and encourage solutions that address the root causes of violence and community tension.

“By passing this resolution, our Town Council affirmed that peace is a shared responsibility,” said Town Mayor Weyling White in the press release. “A promise that Ahoskie will invest in its people, listen to its neighborhoods, and work together to build a future defined by love, connection, compassion, and shared responsibility.”

The newly established Collective will work to:

  • Strengthen relationships between residents, neighborhoods, and community partners
  • Promote conflict-resolution strategies and communication skills
  • Support youth engagement and positive activities for all ages
  • Reduce violence through evidence-informed, community-driven initiatives
  • Create safe spaces for dialogue, collaboration, and healing
  • Build long-term community well-being through shared action and trust

With the resolution now in effect, the Town of Ahoskie is inviting community-minded residents to serve as founding members of the Collective. No prior experience is required; members need only bring an open mind, a commitment to peace, and a desire to make Ahoskie stronger.

Ideal members are individuals who:

  • Live within the Town of Ahoskie
  • Care deeply about neighborhood safety and community unity
  • Are willing to participate in meetings, initiatives, and training
  • Value fairness, empathy, transparency, and collaborative leadership

A Community Effort

“The Ahoskie Peace Collective is not just a program; it is a movement.” said Council Member David Hunt.

“This Collective will ensure that every resident has the opportunity to help shape the solutions that strengthen our community.” said Town Manager John Moses.
