SWAN QUARTER — The village of Swan Quarter will hold its 10th annual Christmas in the Quarter festivities on Saturday, December 6, from 4-8 p.m. All activities will be centered in and around the Hyde County Government Center, 30 Oyster Creek Road.

Art and craft vendors will be set up on the ground floor level of the Center from 4-8 pm, with a variety of hand-crafted and home-made wares. Several local food trucks will also be on hand with a good selection of food and drinks.

Children in festive clothing hold handmade signs while riding on a decorated trailer during a Christmas parade. The setting includes fire trucks and houses in the background.

Throughout the event, there will be activities for children of all ages, including making reindeer food and writing letters to Santa. Seasonal music and Christmas caroling are also on the agenda.

The much-anticipated parade will begin at 4:30 pm with the “Littles Parade”. Children 6 and under will ride bicycles, tricycles, battery powered cars, wagons, or walk, in a short parade just around the Center. Parents are encouraged to accompany them on the route.

The customary parade – with floats, vehicles, golf carts, pedestrians, and even horses and their riders- will follow. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive on a Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department (SQVFD) fire truck as the last entry. Parade entries will be judged on “Best Overall” and “Most Christmas Spirit”.

Visits and photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus will take place inside the Center while seasonal music will get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Following the parade (beginning at 5:30 pm) the Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department (SQVFD) will serve hot dogs with all the fixings, chips, and soda or water. Funnel cakes – prepared on the spot – will also be available.

There will be several other activities taking place inside the SQVFD – including a free bicycle helmet giveaway made possible by the NC Department of Transportation. Volunteers will be on hand to help fit the children with the proper size helmet and provide information on bicycle safety and proper helmet use.

The Friends of Hyde County’s Historic Courthouse will be inside the SQVFD with the opportunity to participate in a raffle for a gigantic Christmas basket filled with a variety of holiday item with a retail value of over $300.

The Friends will also offer a limited-edition tee shirt featuring the 1838 courthouse that will be available in adult sizes.
