Below are the official result of several municipal elections throughout Northeastern North Carolina.
The results will become official once canvassing is done and the votes are certified.
On Wednesday, Nov. 5, State Board of Elections staff will randomly select precincts, early voting sites, and absentee-by-mail ballots to be counted by hand in the counties with November municipal elections.
This process is part of a required post-election audit for all North Carolina elections.
In the coming days, the counties with November elections will count a contest by hand on ballots from the two chosen Election Day precincts, in-person early voting sites, or absentee-by-mail ballots. Then, they will compare the totals with the results of the initial voting machine counts.
Required by state law, the sample audit count helps ensure the reliability of election results tabulated by machine. See Principles and rules for counting official ballots (N.C.G.S. § 163-182.1(b)(1)).
How to Watch
