Edenton Police Department
An Edenton man was arrested on charges of robbery and assault for an incident that occurred on Granville Street, Edenton.
According to the report by Edenton Police Department, an Oakdale Drive resident was stabbed during an attempted robbery that occurred while he was walking at 3:03 a.m. Oct. 16, 2025, on Granville Street.
Deontra Jamar Cofield, 39, of Oakum Street, Edenton, was arrested at 4:10 a.m. Oct. 16, 2025, on felony charges of robbery with a firearm or other dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury.
Police recovered a folding knife with blood on the blade and handle, a fixed blade filet knife with blood on the blade, three keys on a ring with a chain with blood on them, Jordan pants with blood on them, New Balance shoes with blood on them, a Realtree hoodie and $15 in cash.
No bond was set. He was confined to the Chowan County Detention Center.

EPD responded to a fight at Wedgewood Apartments on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Edenton, at 12:39 p.m. Oct. 17, 2025.
According to the report, the six suspects, who vary in age from 17 to 31 and all live in the 700 block of Dr MLK Jr. Avenue, hit the victim with their fists and feet and trespassed on the property.
Ahmarion Thompson, 20, of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Edenton, was charged with second-degree trespass, a misdemeanor, in connection with the case. An unsecured bond of $10,000 was set. The case is still active.
Shalimar Bryana Jernigan, 25, of Eure, was arrested at 8:46 p.m. Oct. 16, 2025, on warrants out of Chowan County for three felony charges of financial transaction card fraud. No bond was set. Jernigan was confined to the Chowan County Jail.
Steven Allen Warfield, 45, of Manteo Trail, Edenton, was arrested during a traffic stop at 11:35 p.m. Oct. 10, 2025 at the Speedway Gas Station on Virginia Road.
According to the incident report, police found 0.4 grams of cocaine inside a $20 bill and 1.4 grams of marijuana inside a blue and clear tube.
Warfield was arrested on a felony charge of possession of cocaine and a misdemeanor charge of possession up to 1/2 ounces of marijuana. A secured bond was set at $5,000. Warfield was confined to the Chowan County Jail. The vehicle was impounded.
Daniel Alexander Staffelli, 35, of Lester Lane Road, Tyner, was arrested at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 11, 2025, due to a complaint by ECU Health Chowan Hospital. Staffelli was charged with first-degree trespass and simple possession of a Schedule III class substance, both misdemeanors. No bond was set. Staffelli was confined to the Chowan County Detention Center.
Antron Derrell Ward, 38, of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Edenton, was arrested at 9:40 p.m. Oct. 11, 2025 during a traffic stop near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Twiddy Avenue. He was charged with carrying concealed weapons, a misdemeanor. The vehicle was left at the scene.
Romaine Michelle Perry, 23, of Chowan Court, Edenton, was arrested at 12:28 a.m. Oct. 15, 2025, on Washington County warrants. Perry was charged with two counts of injury to personal property, both misdemeanors. A secured bond was set at $250.
Ahmarion Thompson, 20, of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Edenton, was arrested at 12:45 a.m. Oct. 17, 2025, and charged with second-degree trespass, a misdemeanor. An unsecured bond was set at $10,000.
Charlie Daye, 28, of Dr. Martin Luther King Avenue, Edenton, was arrested at 9:20 p.m. Oct. 17, 2025, and charged with possession of more than 1/2 ounce of marijuana, a misdemeanor. A secured bond was set of $50,000. Daye was confined to the Chowan County Detention Center.
Markee Montana Chesson, 26, of Church Street Edenton, was arrested at 10:22 p.m. Oct. 18, 2025 and charged with assault by strangulation, a felony.
According to the incident report, EPD received a call at 9:55 p.m. Oct. 18, 2025, for an incident on Paxton Lane, in which Chesson snatched a chain around the Paxton Lane resident’s neck and grabbed her throat. The victim suffered minor injuries according to the report.
No bond was set and Chesson was confined to the Chowan County Detention Center.
Auner Perez Moreno, 37, of Johnston Street, Edenton, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 22, 2025, on charges of Driving While Intoxicated and hit and run leaving the scene of property damage, both misdemeanors.
According to the incident report, Perez Moreno hit a 2019 Dodge Ram owned by Jimmy Droze Jr. of Hertford and fled the scene.
A secured bond of $3,000 was set. Perez Moreno was confined to the Chowan County Detention Center.
On Oct. 10, 2025, EPD received a report of someone giving false information to obtain money through prepaid cards. The victim is a Gale Street resident. The case is currently closed.
At 10:14 a.m. Oct. 18, 2025, EPD conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of North Granville Street and Virginia Road. During the stop, officers arrested Crystal Renee Armstead, 38, of Raleigh, on charges of carrying concealed weapons and expired registration.
At 1:30 p.m. Oct. 18, 2025, EPD responded to a report of breaking and entering/larceny on Granville Street, Edenton. According to the report, an unknown suspect broke into a business and stole a firearms, seven trays of pennies ranging from the years 1800-1900, and six blue books containing several antique pennies.
EPD responded to Gale Street, Edenton, at 2:28 p.m. Oct. 19, 2025, for a report of larceny. According to the report, a resident of County Club Drive in Edenton was on Gale Street when an unknown suspect took their backpack, which contained an HP laptop computer.
Charles Owen Babb, 23, of Cartwright Road in Elizabeth City, was arrested at 8:19 p.m. Oct. 21, 2025, during a traffic stop at the Pizza Hut parking lot, 100 Claire Drive. According to the report, police charged Babb with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance after several items used in the sale or use of drugs were found, along with several pills of Buprenophine, an opioid, and other pills.

Lawrence Council of King Street, Hertford, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, maintain vehicle/dwelling CS, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sean Revels of Hog Neck Road, Hertford, was charged with obtaining property under false pretenses/uttering.
Thomas White of Coffield Road, Edenton, was charged with assault on a female.
Jeffrey Wallace of Rockland Driver, Greenville, was charged with financial card theft and obtaining property under false pretenses.
Bertie County Sheriff’s Office
Reports from citizens in Roxobel about hearing gunshots in the area of Railroad Lane in Roxobel, led to the arrest of a convicted felon shooting in the air.
Kendrick Draughn, 36, of Roxobel was charged with Possession of Firearm by Felon
and Resisting Public Officer.
The incident was isolated and defendant was on his property — state law restricts a convicted felon from possessing a firearm.
Draughn was confined into Bertie Martin Regional Jail under $11,000 secured bond.
