PLYMOUTH — Plymouth mayoral candidate Crystal Davis sent a statement to the Albemarle Observer after seeing our story about her social media posts.
In that story, the Albemarle Observer reported on Councilwoman Davis’ recent Facebook Live address, where she states she will no longer engage in what she calls “social media trash” and “Facebook Wars” with her opponents such as Council candidate John Shelton.
Here is Davis’ statement to the Albemarle Observer – non redacted:
I will say this: for a year, I have dealt with racist comments. I’ve been cyberbullied, harassed in meetings, name-called because I will no longer allow corruption! This group of people, and Shelton himself, created a few Facebook pages just to bash me; these bullies are bold to even write hateful comments on my personal page and the official town of Plymouth page.
Yes, I made this comment on a Facebook page that belongs to one of my friends…. stalkers maybe? I will not apologize. It is a cowardly move for multiple men, including him, to attempt to bully a woman for a year on social media, and in my private life. This same man has called the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, which I have served on for 3 years, to attempt to have me removed from the board, before the comment!
This same man, and his group of bullies, called the police multiple times at my voter registration drive to have it shut down with fictitious complaints.
This same man writes a social media post almost daily talking about me. This is not politics; this is a bully, a coward, who has to have some type of mental health issues to be so obsessed with me. The Council consists of 6. Why are you so obsessed with me? I do have people who support me, not because of what they say is racist, it’s all walks of life because I have been an advocate in the community for 15 years, and helped a lot of people. BEFORE COUNCIL.
The purpose of me going on social media doing a live was to ask the people who support me to NOT continue to engage in the social media war. They reposted my live, and you should see the comments… disgusting. I didn’t start this war…he did. I was attempting to end it. I wrote that comment a month ago, and even today they still continue to taunt me on social media, and I will not, and have not responded.
He is not a VICTIM… he is a VILLAIN! It makes one wonder… if historically the system here in Plymouth has NEVER been challenged, and I am the only one who ever challenged them, who really was getting the kickbacks? They know they have been operating out of compliance for years, people out of fear of what they are doing to me wouldn’t stand up, nor speak up.
I’m thankful God has given me tough skin, this type of cyberbullying would cause the average person would end their life. Have you ever taken the time to research the Plymouth, NC page? The other 5 fake pages they made up? It’s enough to make the average person have a moment.
I’m human, I had a moment, but I will not apologize, most of all… I will not be intimidated, and I will continue to be a voice for the people of Plymouth!
