COLUMBIA – The Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday, Oct. 6, in Columbia.
According to a press release from the agency. a shooting occurred at 5:35 p.m. Monday, at the intersection of 2nd Street and Hicks Street in Columbia. Deputies heard the shots and responded to the area.
A witness gave deputies a suspect vehicle description and direction of travel. Deputies located the suspect vehicle at 5:38 p.m. traveling west on US 64. The vehicle was stopped and the driver and front passenger were detained. There were two small children in the back seat of the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, a Glock 19 was located under the front passenger seat that had recently been fired.
The front passenger, Keondrea Swain, of Plymouth, was taken to Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office, while deputies secured the scene for further investigation.
The driver was released to care for the children.
During this, deputies were notified that a juvenile subject matching the description of the other person involved in the shooting was being taken to ECU Health Chowan for a gunshot wound to the chest.
His condition is listed as stable.
This investigation is ongoing and further information will be released at a later time.
