GATESVILLE — Deputy Boone recently took the oath of office to become the newest member of the Gates County Sheriff’s Office.

Boone was sworn-in on Sept. 15. He has several years of experience from a neighboring county. He will undergo a field-training period to get acquainted with the Gates County community, as well as the sheriff’s office’s policy and procedure.

On Sept. 13, Sheriff Ray Campbell and several deputies participated in the 2nd annual Color Run hosted by the Gates County High School Naval National Defense Cadet Corps.

A Color Run involves getting dyed corn starch tossed at you during various parts of the run.

The mission of the Corps is to instill in students the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment.

Kill Devil Hills Police

KILL DEVIL HILLS – Kill Devil Hills will host an ice cream social, featuring a cake walk, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at Aviation Park, 103 Veterans Drive, Kill Devil Hills. Members of the town’s police department will be in attendance.

Dare County Sheriff’s Office

MANTEO – The Dare County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of scam calls falsely using the names of deputies or claiming to represent the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.

These calls may appear with “No Caller ID” from the following phone numbers: (252)260-0733 and (252)216-2320.

Please be advised:

  • Do not provide any personal or financial information.
  • Hang up immediately.
  • Block the number.

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office and its employees will never ask for payment, money in person, over the phone or text, related to missed court dates, tickets etc.

Any such request is a scam.

If you are unsure or have questions, please contact the Dare County Sheriff’s Office directly at (252) 475-5980.

Edenton Police Department

Mistie Gail Phelps, 32, of Creswell, was arrested on Sept. 9 on North Broad Street for two outstanding warrants from Washington County for felony probation violation. A secured bond of $50,000 was set. Phelps was confined to the Albemarle District Jail.

Nykera Tiranae Blount, 29, address unknown, was arrested on Sept. 10, on Court Street for an outstanding warrant from Pasquotank County for a misdemeanor charge of assault inflicting serious injury.

Edson Rodas Castillo, 34, of Garner, NC, was arrested on Sept. 18, 2025, during a traffic stop at the corner of North Broad Street and West Hicks Street. Castillo faces misdemeanor charges of driving while impaired and no operator’s license. A secured bond of $5,000 was set. Castillo was confined to the Chowan County jail.

Edenton Police responded to an incident on Johnston Street on Sept. 5. According to the report, an unknown person pulled fuses and brackets from an electrical fuse panel.

On Sept. 16, the Edenton Police responded to All-Season Self-Storage, located on North Oakum Street in Edenton, for a hit-and-run incident. According to the incident report, a Hertford resident backed into a support pillar in front of the business, causing approximately $500 in damage.

On Sept. 16, Edenton Police responded to Food Lion, 300 Virginia Road, Edenton, for a report of a suspect concealing merchandise under their clothing. The suspect took about $42 worth of steak.

Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office

Susan Eyler, of Shady Lane, Hertford, was arrested on Sept. 12 on a criminal summons for simple assault.

Idubijes Ordaz-Rios, of Don Juan Road, Hertford, was arrested Sept. 12 on a criminal summons for no operator’s license and failure to report an accident.

Marciana Robles-Rio, of Don Juan Road, Hertford, was arrested on Sept. 12, on a criminal summons of allowing an unlicensed minor to drive.

Shawna Young (Vaughn), of Shady Lane, Hertford, was arrested on Sept. 13 on charges of second-degree trespass and resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer. A secured bond of $1,000 was set. Young was also arrested on Sept. 17 on another charge of second-degree trespass. Young was put on a 48-hour hold.
