Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office Partners with 30×30 Fundraising to Keep K9 Safe in the Field
COLUMBIA — The Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with national nonprofit 30×30 Fundraising to raise funds for a critical piece of equipment: a Heat Alarm system for K9 Leni’s patrol vehicle.
This one-time purchase could mean the difference between life and death. K9 Leni is trained to protect and serve, but like many K9s, she faces hidden dangers; including heatstroke if the vehicle’s cooling system fails while the deputy is responding to a call. A Heat Alarm detects rising temperatures and automatically alerts the handler, rolls down windows, and activates fans to protect the K9 inside.
“Too often, departments can’t afford this kind of protection,” said Kendra Cook, spokesperson for 30×30 Fundraising. “Our goal is to fund that gap so every K9 like Leni can stay safe on the job.”
Many agencies don’t have the budget to include this equipment in standard line items, making nonprofit partnerships like this essential. Donations will cover the full cost of the Heat Alarm with full transparency and oversight by K9 Leni’s handler.
