HERTFORD – The Hertford Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. Monday to consider a range of business items, from updating fees for equipment rentals to filling key board vacancies, and to approve a budget amendment aimed at repairing sewer infrastructure damaged during a recent water main repair.

Monday’s meeting is expected to draw attention both for its routine matters, such as fee adjustments and board appointments, and for its handling of unplanned infrastructure repairs. The closed session real estate discussion may also hint at potential future town projects or expansions, though any official action would have to be taken in open session.

When Council meets at Council Chambers at the Horace Reid Community Center located at 305 West Grubb Street, the meeting’s new business agenda begins with a proposal to update the town’s fees for equipment rentals, hourly services, and usage of town-owned equipment. The revisions are intended to ensure rates remain in line with current costs, according to the agenda.

Council will also consider approving a professional electrical engineering firm to provide professional services for the town. Details on the scope of work and the specific firm recommended are expected to be discussed during the meeting.

Two board appointments are up for action: naming Sara Winslow to the 911 Communications Board and filling a vacancy on the Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustments. These appointments would place residents in positions to help oversee critical emergency communications operations and zoning appeals.

A budget amendment is also on the table, prompted by an unexpected infrastructure issue. During a recent water main repair on Church Street, a sewer line was accidentally broken. Town staff are recommending shifting $14,850 from the sewer contingency account to the sewer repair infrastructure account to fund the necessary repairs. Both the town manager and finance officer recommend approval.

Other agenda items include the town manager’s update, council members’ reports and concerns, and announcements.

Following the public session, council is scheduled to enter a closed session under North Carolina General Statute §143-318.11(a)(5) to discuss the potential acquisition of real property. The statute allows such discussions to remain confidential when determining the price or other material terms of a purchase, option, exchange, or lease.
