HERTFORD – William Ray Miller, a respected farmer and community leader who spent decades serving the people of Winfall and Perquimans County, died Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Edenton Primetime. He was 85.
Born May 12, 1940, in Perquimans County, Mr. Miller’s life was deeply rooted in both agriculture and public service. A lifelong farmer, he co-owned and operated Miller’s Livestock for many years, providing a vital outlet for area farmers and contributing to the region’s agricultural economy.
Outside of his livelihood, Mr. Miller dedicated much of his time to improving his hometown. He served on the Winfall Town Council, helping shape local policies and guide growth in the small Perquimans County community. His commitment to public safety was evident through his service with the Winfall Volunteer Fire Department, where he worked alongside fellow firefighters to protect neighbors in times of need.
Mr. Miller was also a past member of the Parksville Ruritan Club, supporting local projects and charitable initiatives aimed at enhancing community life. A devoted member of Cedar Grove Church, his faith informed his service and relationships.
Friends and colleagues remember him as a steady, hardworking man who valued integrity, tradition, and the well-being of others. His decades of civic engagement left an enduring mark on Winfall.
Mr. Miller was the son of the late Kenneth Winslow Miller, Sr., and Delsie Pierce Miller. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Glennie Myers Miller, and his brother, Archie Winslow Miller, Sr.
