BY MID-ATLANTIC CHRISTIAN UNIVERITY

ELIZABETH CITY – Mid-Atlantic Christian University (MACU) has been accepted as a part of North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU). MACU is the first institution in over 15 years to join this statewide consortium of private, nonprofit colleges and universities.

This historic step affirms MACU’s deep commitment to academic excellence, service-centered education, and strategic collaboration across North Carolina’s higher education landscape.

“This is a significant and exciting milestone for Mid-Atlantic Christian University,” said John W. Maurice, Jr., MACU president. “Becoming a part of NCICU allows us to join a distinguished network of institutions that share our core values of integrity, service, and transformative education. As the first university in a decade to be welcomed into this organization, we are honored to bring our unique voice and vision to this collaborative effort in advancing independent higher education across North Carolina.”

With 36 colleges and universities, NCICU represents the collective strength of private higher education in the state. It provides critical advocacy at the state and federal levels, promotes research, facilitates joint initiatives, and supports student-focused programming through the
Independent College Fund of North Carolina. MACU’s inclusion in NCICU reinforces the shared vision of nurturing student potential, encouraging community impact, and fostering holistic development grounded in values.

MACU to Host Bible Display

Mid-Atlantic Christian University will host the Pioneer Bible Translators’ Bible Translation Display, a compelling and educational exhibit open to the public on June 24 and 25 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a special presentation on June 26 at 7 p.m.

All events will take place in the Alligood Dining Hall on the MACU campus in Elizabeth City. This immersive experience offers a unique opportunity to witness the global reach and ongoing mission of Bible translation.

This interactive display, developed by Pioneer Bible Translators, showcases over 50 translated Scriptures from 30 countries, reaching an estimated 189 million language speakers. It represents the cultural and linguistic diversity of God’s Word while casting vision for the translation work still unfinished symbolized by empty stands representing language groups still waiting to receive Scripture.

The event holds special meaning for Mid-Atlantic Christian University as it highlights the contributions of Buddy Holloway, a distinguished MACU alumnus and a driving force in the global Bible translation movement. Buddy will be joined by his wife, Danielle Holloway, as they share their journey and passion for bringing the Bible to every people group on earth.

“This display helps us see the scope of the Great Commission with our own eyes,” Maurice said. “It challenges us to think globally, act missionally, and recognize the urgent need for Scripture in every language.”

The June 26 presentation at 7 p.m. will offer a deeper look into the work of Bible translation, including a vision to make Scripture available to every language group by the year 2050. Guests will also learn about practical ways to get involved in this global mission.
