College of the Albemarle will host several events this April, including an art exhibit. Information about those events appears here, with shorter versions of the events appearing in our events calendar.
COA has campuses throughout northeastern North Carolina and offers courses to help people earn associate’s degrees, continue their education and enhance their skills with certification programs. The main campus is in Elizabeth City.
Board of Trustees Meeting
College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Board of Trustees will hold its April regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. April 8 at COA – Elizabeth City, Building AE, Room 208. The agenda has not been released as of press time.
Annual Publication Released
COA’s annual publication, “Estuaries: A Visual Arts and Literary Review,” has been released. This publication showcases a variety of works submitted by COA students, faculty, staff and community members.
The release party for “Estuaries” will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. April 10, at COA – Dare, 205 U.S. Highway 64 South, Manteo. The event will include a discussion of 2025 submissions by featured artists and writers. Posters will also be on display, offering attendees a preview of this year’s publication.
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

‘Industry in Schools’ Week
COA has partnered with STEM East to participate in the inaugural “Industry in Schools Week,” scheduled for April 5-12. This regional initiative is designed to introduce middle and high school students across northeastern North Carolina to local career opportunities and the education and training pathways available to help them succeed.
Throughout the week, COA will host events that highlight STEM-related programs such as agribusiness, health sciences, culinary and skilled trades programs. These events reflect COA’s mission to transform tomorrows through education and strong partnerships with schools and local industries.
STEM East is a regional network supporting STEM education and career pathway development. A part of the NCEast Alliance, STEM East works to strengthen education-industry partnerships and prepare students for high-demand jobs across Eastern North Carolina.

Career Fair Set
COA will host its annual Career Fair from noon to 2 p.m. April 9 at COA – Elizabeth City, in Building AE. This event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.
The Career Fair is an opportunity to connect with employers and discover how COA’s programs can help individuals acquire better skills to gain a better job.
This year’s event will feature more than 30 employers, with participants still registering. Some employers registered so far include: Albemarle Regional Health Services, B&M Contractors, Barnhill Contracting, Boddie Noell Enterprises/Hardee’s, Coca-Cola, Colony Tire Corporation, ECU Health, Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools, Elizabeth City Police Department, Moneysworth Inc., NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island, NCWorks, North Carolina Department of Insurance, North Carolina Department of Adult Correction – Pasquotank Correctional Institution, Twiford Funeral Home, United States Army, United States Marine Corps, and the United States Navy.
‘Tidelands’ on display at COA – Dare
“Tidelands,” a multimedia art exhibition by Outer Banks artist Fay Davis Edwards, is on display at the art gallery on the second floor of B Building at COA – Dare, at 205 US 64, Manteo.
“Tidelands” explores themes of ghost forests, estuaries and climate change, capturing the evolving nature of coastal landscapes. Edwards, a painter and multimedia artist, draws inspiration from the environment, focusing on the
shifting shorelines of North Carolina. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from East Carolina University and a Master of Fine Arts from the Maine College of Art & Design. Edwards also serves as a workforce development and career readiness coordinator at College of The Albemarle.
Her home and studio are near the shoreline of Roanoke Island.
The exhibition will remain on display through April 9, with gallery hours Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The work for ‘Tidelands’ examines the changing nature of our shorelines and the increasing presence of ghost forests,” Edwards said. “Through a combination of sculptural and two-dimensional imagery, my goal is to capture the beauty of these marshy landscapes while sparking conversation about the environmental challenges they face.”
