A round-up of things from God’s country …

First, there was a two-hour delay this morning (Monday) for Chowan and Perquimans schools because of the after-effects of last week’s snowstorm – so the boys were still asleep at our house as I wrote this missive.
Because it’s sunny outside, Pilgrimage is on my mind because this is one of Edenton’s signature events that will take place in the spring – April 11-12. Check out the cool video!
Let’s start a countdown – we have 46 days between today Feb. 24 and April 11.
For folks who don’t know what Pilgrimage is, well, it’s a pretty cool tour of grand homes and historic sites in Edenton.

The list of homes is still being finalized but there may be 19 homes and seven historic sites featured. Embrace a bit of Southern hospitality – there’s good food and loads of people come to Edenton.
Here’s what I remember from a past tour — seeing the bank vault inside Beverly Hall and I think there was a peacock in that backyard too. There were docents dressed in historical attire, so I remember hearing about the history at Pembroke Hall. Flowers are blooming, maybe there’ll be those tiny white flowers on the Courthouse Green. Because I like books – I was inspired by the nooks and crannies filled with books within these wonderful historic homes.
Important note, Pilgrimage proceeds support local scholarships and grants. Applications are due March 28. If you want to build that really cool bookcase that’s built into the wall, this would be the way to go so submit a grant application to the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Edenton Woman’s Club that organizes the tour — a lot of work goes into the making this tour happen.
For more ticket information – tickets are reasonably priced – see this webpage. The event supports historic preservation and education – scholarships!
More coverage about Pilgrimage is coming in the days and weeks ahead.
In other news, Aces’ wrestlers Gavin Pierce and SJ competed this past weekend at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association State Championship in Greensboro. More on that story to come – but congrats.
Miles Coxe’s mother Mary Marshall Ragland Coxe, 94, died Feb. 21 – so say a prayer for the family. According to her obituary, her Confirmation in the Episcopal Church was featured in Life Magazine – that’s interesting, and this may be the link to finding that photo, not sure, but the math is right, possibly on page 78 on the April 6 edition, 1942.
On that note, Confirmation classes are around the corner at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
