How to navigate the website

The Albemarle Observer is divided into categories – News, Community, Opinion and Sports. To view all articles in a particular category, click on the category name that appears in the menu located on the bottom or top of the page.

For example, if you click on “News” in the top menu, you will get all of the stories in the news category listed with the newest stories first.

How to search by topic

If you would like to see articles related to a particular topic, you can use the search option in the menu.

In this example, we typed in “monument” in the search box. The search will pull up every story on our website that features the word “monument”, including news, community, opinion and sports. Like the category function, the stories are listed with the newest story first.

How to make a donation

The Albemarle Observer currently takes donation by mail and via the website. To make a donation via mail, send it to Albemarle Observer ℅ Miles and Nicole Layton, 205 E. Church St., Apt. A, Edenton, NC 27932.

To make an online donation, use the form on the Contacts & Donations page. Because it is handled through our site provider, WordPress, you will need to set up an account unless you have already done so. Setting up an account will save your information for possible future donations and allow for your payment to be processed. If you have blocked pop-ups on your internet browser, you will need to allow them on our site. We will add more options for payment depending on user demand.

To use the form, first click on one of the buttons on the top indicating whether you are making a one-time, monthly and yearly donation. 

In the area below, you can press a button indicating the amount of the donation or type in another amount in the space provided.

You then click on “donate button.”

This will take you to another pop-up to verify the amount you wish to donate and the method of payment. If you want to add a credit card, this is where you would do it, by clicking on the “add credit card” button on the top of the tab. If the information looks correct, you can click on “make donation” to submit the donation.

You will receive an email confirmation. We typically process donations once a day.

All donations will go toward our efforts to provide news content and establish either a nonprofit news organization or an LLC. We’re still studying the benefits of both at this time.
