Edenton Police

A Roper resident, who was born in Edenton, was arrested on several drug-related charges on Feb. 17, 2026.

According to the Edenton Police Department, Kerry Cabarrus Jr., 45, of Jones White Road, Roper, was arrested at 11:20 p.m. Feb. 17, 2026.

An incident report says Cabarrus’ vehicle was stopped by police on South Broad Street, Edenton, at 10:49 p.m. Feb. 16. During the stop, $175.00 was found in the vehicle, along with 1 gram of “crack” cocaine, 2 grams of cocaine, and 4.9 grams of marijuana.

Cabarrus faces felony charges of possession of cocaine and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances and a misdemeanor charge of possession of up to half an ounce of marijuana.

A $30,000 secured bond was set. Cabarrus was confined to the Chowan County Detention Center.

In other matters, a Fayetteville resident was also arrested on drug-related charges in February.

According to the Edenton Police arrest report. Bobbi-Jo Lynn Cox, 43, of the 200 block of Vander Street, Fayetteville, was arrested after a traffic stop on the 500 block of Virginia Road at 1:46 a.m. Feb. 18, 2026.

During the traffic stop, police seized 0.05 ounces of cocaine, 0.28 ounces of marijuana, a handgun and several items of drug paraphernalia.

Besides Cox, a man and a juvenile from Fayetteville were in the vehicle. They were not charged in the case.

Cox was arrested on felony charges of possession of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of up to half an ounce of marijuana.

Cox was confined at the Albemarle District Jail.

A Virginia resident was recently arrested for allegedly breaking into a home near downtown Edenton.
According to the incident report, Edenton Police responded to the 100-block of King Street, Edenton, at 10:13 p.m. Feb. 22, 2026, for a report of a suspect entering the victim’s house without permission.

Colin T. Davis, 23, of the 300 block of Howard Street, Urbanna, Virginia, was arrested at 10:47 p.m. Feb. 22 on King Street. He was charged with breaking and entering, a misdemeanor. The report noted that alcohol was involved.

No bond was set for Davis. He was confined to the Chowan County Detention Center.

At 8:24 p.m. Feb. 21, 2026, Edenton Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Waterford Place Apartments, Chowan Court, Edenton. According to the report, the suspect attempted to flee/elude arrest while in a motor vehicle, failure to head blue light and siren and reckless driving.

The case is still active.

At 10:59 a.m., March 1, Edenton Police responded to a report of a firearm being shot within the city limits. The incident occurred on the 300 block of Old Hertford Road in Edenton. While on scene, Edenton police seized a 9-millimeter gun, bullets and accessories, worth about $408.99.

At 12:32 a.m. Feb. 24, 2026, Edenton Police responded to the 100 block of Reginald and Mary Avenue for a report of a suspect kicking the door to gain entry to a residence while carrying a concealed weapon.

Washington County

ROPER — On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to Roper Food Mart located at 7103 NC HWY 32 North for reports of a man who had been shot.

Upon arrival, deputies secured the scene for any possible threats and found the victim, 43-year-old Lakentric Sanders of Roper, bleeding just inside the entrance of the store. Deputies secured the area for EMS to arrive on scene and began treatment of the victim.

During the Investigation, speaking with witnesses and the video footage that was obtained by security cameras, Deputies and Investigators were able to identify that 39-year-old Steven Hill shot Lakentric Sanders three times at close range with a handgun after a verbal altercation just outside of the store.

Steven Hill has had a history of living/being in Washington County and the surrounding areas and is considered armed and dangerous. Hill is also on the run for multiple felony warrants involving guns and drugs from other jurisdictions in North Carolina.

Steven Hill has an active outstanding warrant for attempted murder out of Washington County for this incident.

NC SBI

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is proud to partner with local, state, and federal law enforcement and community partners to help combat scams and cyber fraud. The SBI is working across North Carolina to raise awareness about the alarming number of scams targeting senior citizens, while victimizing residents of all ages.

Recently, a Triangle man was scammed out of nearly $800,000 by a romance scammer. The SBI has even received reports of scammers posing as the SBI director, calling victims to claim they are under investigation and must pay money to clear their name.

NEVER GIVE MONEY TO ANYONE WHO CALLS YOU ON THE PHONE. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up, and talk to a trusted friend or family member before taking any action. NEVER share your banking information because no reputable business is going to ask you to make any payment using “prepaid gift cards.”

Report scams to local law enforcement, Consumer Affairs, and to the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.

Bertie County

AULANDER — The State Bureau of Investigation has been requested to assist with a murder investigation in Aulander.

The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.

The homicide occurred around 12:30 AM Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the ATM at the Valero Gas station on the corner of West Main Street and Commerce Street. The victim was shot while attempting to complete a transaction at an ATM. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of kin.

Northeastern Drug Task Force

The Northeastern Drug Task Force, with assistance from the Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant on Feb. 27, 2026, at a residence in Perquimans County as part of a narcotics investigation.

During the search, investigators recovered more than 1,000 grams of methamphetamine, over 700 grams of fentanyl, and a stolen firearm.

As a result of the investigation, Robert Junior Williams, 53, of Sueola Beach Road, was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

  • Trafficking in Methamphetamine
  • Trafficking in Fentanyl
  • Possession of a Stolen Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

Williams was taken to the Albemarle District Jail, where he is being held without bond.

The Northeastern Drug Task Force and the Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office remain committed to combating illegal drug activity and keeping dangerous substances out of local communities.

The Northeastern Drug Task Force is a multi-agency unit comprised of the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Gates County Sheriff’s Office, Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, Kill Devil Hills Police Department, Nags Head Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office for the First Prosecutorial District, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office

Kimberly Scott, 200 block of Harris Landing, Hertford, was arrested on Feb. 27, 2026, on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia and shoplifting. A $10,000 secured bond was set.

Trayvien Miller, of the 100 block of Nates Drive, Hertford, was arrested on Feb. 28, 2026, on charges of assault on a government official. A $20,000 secured bond was set.

Tiffany Silvester, 800 block of West Bear Swamp Road, Hertford, was arrested on March 2, 2026, on a charge of driving while license revoked. A $260 secured bond was set.

Timothy Woolford, 1000 block of Ocean Highway South, Hertford, was arrested on March 2, 2026, on a habitual felon charge. A $100,000 secured bond was set.

Bonnie Lane, 100 block of Taylor Lane, Hertford, was arrested March 3, 2026, on a charge of obstructing justice. A $2,000 secured bond was set.

Martin Bateman, 100 block of Maple Street, Hertford, was arrested on March 2, 2026, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and reckless driving-wanton disregard. A $2,000 unsecured bond was set.

Travis Foster, 200 block of North Front Street, Hertford, was arrested on March 3, 2026, on a charge of misdemeanor child abuse. A $1,000 secured bond was set.

Kenny Felton, 300 block of King Street, Hertford, was arrested on March 4, 2026, on a criminal summons for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
