GATESVILLE — Gates County High School is proud to announce the hiring of Jawan Riddick as the new Head Varsity Football Coach — Go Red Barons!

Coach Riddick brings a strong foundation of faith, leadership, athletic achievement, and community dedication to the Red Barons football program, according to a press release issued Friday by Gates County Schools.

A follower of Jesus Christ, Riddick leads with integrity, humility, and a servant’s heart—principles that will serve as a cornerstone of his leadership. A four-year dual-sport athlete during his high school career, Riddick understands the commitment, discipline, and resilience required of student-athletes. He continued his football journey at the collegiate level, playing four years at Barton College, where he sharpened his knowledge of the game and developed as a leader on and off the field.

Beyond his accomplishments in athletics and academics, he is devoted to helping the community and its youth. Known as a selfless leader, Riddick is passionate about mentoring young men and being a walking example of character, accountability, and perseverance. His vision for the Gates County football program extends beyond wins and losses.

“I’m excited for another outlet to give back to a community that helped make me who I am today,” Riddick said. “It’s an honor to lead this program and pour into the lives of these young men.”

Riddick aims to cultivate a family-like atmosphere within the team, strengthen relationships throughout the school, and draw the community into the program. He is committed to building strong, character-driven young men while fostering a culture of pride, unity, and excellence.

Riddick earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, further preparing him to lead, organize, and build a successful athletic program.

Principal Jonathan Hayes added, “Gates County High School administration expressed confidence in Riddick’s ability to positively impact student-athletes and elevate the football program through strong leadership and community engagement. Please join us in welcoming Coach Riddick as he begins this new chapter as Head Varsity Football Coach at Gates County High School.”
