Ed Goodwin announced Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, that he is running for reelection to the North Carolina House of Representatives, seeking another term representing House District 1.

“Today, I officially filed for re-election,” said Goodwin, a Republican from Chowan County.
Goodwin said his decision to seek another term is rooted in a desire to continue advocating for Eastern North Carolina and addressing issues he believes are critical to the region’s future.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue serving and fighting for the people of Eastern North Carolina. There is still much work to be done—protecting our values, strengthening our communities, supporting our farmers and small businesses, and standing up for faith, family, and freedom,” he said.
House District 1 includes Chowan, Currituck, Dare (partially), Perquimans, Tyrrell, and Washington counties. Goodwin was first elected to the General Assembly in 2018 and has since represented the largely rural northeastern district.
Goodwin emphasized leadership and constituent outreach as key components of his campaign as he prepares for the months ahead.
“I believe Eastern North Carolina deserves strong, steady leadership that listens, works hard, and puts people over politics,” he said. “Over the coming months, I’ll be traveling the district, hearing your concerns, and continuing to fight for a stronger, safer, and more affordable future for our region.”
Goodwin also reflected on his time in office and his commitment to public service.
“I’m honored to serve—and I’m ready to keep fighting for Eastern North Carolina,” he said.
To date, Goodwin will face John Spruill in the Republican primary on March 3. No Democrat has filed to run for the seat. Candidate filing deadline is noon Friday, Dec. 19.
In the legislature, Goodwin serves on several key committees. He is a member of the Agriculture and Environment Committee and the Wildlife Resources Committee. He also serves as vice chairman of the Appropriations Committee, chairman of the Appropriations, Agriculture and Natural and Economic Resources Committee, and chairman of the Homeland Security and Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.
In other election news, Don Davis filed on Monday to run as a Democrat in the US House of Representatives District 1. The incumbent will face the winner of the Republican primary, which currently includes Bobby Haning, Eric Rouse, Asa Buck, and Ashley-Nicole Russell.
